Adriaan Labuschagne is a Cape Town-based director and cinematographer working across narrative film, music video, commercials and documentary.
Originally trained as a photographer, Adriaan spent almost a decade working in China in commercial photography and production before returning to South Africa. That background continues to influence his directing approach, combining a strong visual sensibility with a practical, hands-on understanding of camera, performance and production.
His work is particularly drawn to character, atmosphere and location, often finding cinematic moments within real environments and everyday situations. Whether working on a narrative film, music video or commercial project, he approaches the work from both a director's and cinematographer's perspective, with an emphasis on strong composition, naturalistic performances and visual storytelling.
His short film Baleka won Best Student Film at the 2025 South African Independent Film Festival, and his recent work includes the Afrikaans short film Wegbreek, alongside commercial, documentary and music-video projects.
Adriaan is based in Cape Town and works throughout South Africa and internationally.
